Captured from St Mary's School, Cambridge Gazette: I am pleased to be allowed to guest-publish an article on the Gazette. I thought I’d discuss my perspective on art as a concept to study and create, and how that fits into studying it at sixth form at St Mary’s. I’ve been developing my interest in art for a long time, from establishing my art website to attempting street performance in my hometown Hong Kong – my main thing I’ve learnt with this is the importance of proactivity to create opportunities for yourself.
However, it often happens that immediate assistance from other people isn't feasible, especially when it comes to art. It's a personal journey, and the primary source of support must always be oneself. This process of self-reliance hones our ability to overcome obstacles on our path to achieving our goals, testing our resilience, especially when we encounter the harsh realities of society.
One thing I’ve valued in joining St Mary’s is that that self-reliance is encouraged and supported, but we’re never entirely left alone. I’m amazed by the extraordinary team of art staff who extend their support to you to be an incredibly creative individual. My experience has revealed the remarkable supportiveness of the St. Mary's community, exceeding my initial expectations. In my opinion, the art facilities here are superior to what I've seen elsewhere. Studio 47 stands as the heart of St. Mary's art culture, offering diverse art forms, technology integration, and innovative materials, which I think is really praiseworthy.
From my perspective, studying Art here is the best place where I can acquire the skills I need to advance my own personal creative projects. Although my ideas often extend beyond my abilities, the satisfaction of visually experiencing a captivating fusio
n of technology, architecture, film studies, and design elements within an artwork is immeasurable, compelling me not to give up.
Art continually evolves because it resides in every aspect of existence, and translating it into a complex piece enriched with these elements has profound and unique effects, distinct from conventional art forms seen in many schools. But I feel that St Mary’s surpasses the standard teaching, fostering collaboration between art and science, and art and technology, among others. I’m really excited when looking ahead to the countless possibilities that may emerge from these intersections and how I can personally use these connections.
So, there you have it – a review of St. Mary's, a bit of self-reflection, and my musings on various subjects! Thank you very much for taking the time to read this.
