’60 Seconds of Escapism’
Entering a temporary bubble that transports from reality into a dream-like world of imagination. Original music composed by C. Todds sets the mood, while 'the cloud'—an overhead installation symbolising thoughts and emotions—hovers above, inviting people of the public to immerse themselves in this creative atmosphere and express their thoughts by painting on canvas. Here, we capture five individual stories from people we encountered through the installation...
Kobe Bryant Day
1st RESPONDENT
August 24 was Kobe Bryant Day, when we met our first respondent, who interacted by sharing his inspiring story on canvas. He explained that Kobe Bryant was his role model and a driving force who supported him through moments of doubt and uncertainty.
WEDDING PHOTOS
4th RESPONDENT
A newly married couple came to Hong Kong for their wedding photoshoot and collaborated on a canvas, marking their excitement together. They looked ahead to their new stage of life with anticipation, yet some concerns about the challenges to come.

ABOUT SZE
Hailing from Hong Kong and currently based in Cambridge, UK, I began my fresh artistic journey in 2022 by sharing my artworks on Instagram. The first sale of my original pieces on a street in Harrogate led to the later establishment of this website, a platform where my buyers can finally better stay in touch with my updates and movements, also empowering opportunities for online purchases. The style of abstractness and vivid images combined with landscapes was central to my earlier acrylic pieces, chiefly dedicated to the inner scenery of my philosophical depiction of human fundamentals: the chaotic yet peaceful nature, the relationship between despair and hope, and other conflicting ideas.
The adaptation of seldom-used unconventional media, such as highlighters, served as an incredible sketching tool for bringing ideas to life before their transformation into larger-scale paintings. This approach marked the unique method of blending traditional and modern artistic techniques and was later delightfully featured on The Alcott Youth Magazine website in Oct 2022.
Aiming to explore new expressions and media with, nevertheless, the desire to capture the complex and multifaceted nature of human experience in my work, my HEART project came to fruition in the summer of 2023: an interactive three-dimensional piece for the Hong Kong people to discuss the importance of wellbeing and our relationship with resilience (Listed in the “Featured Projects” below). With several documentaries being made from 2023 onward as well as short films and photographs that are society and architecture themed, my experiments and experiences continue to grow and be shared on my blog.
Having exhibited my drawing piece, "Hiding" at Michaelhouse Cafe, Cambridge, curated by Cantab and Granta Arts Societies in June 2024, I am very pleased and would like to give special thanks to all my supporters of this website.
My journey from abstract paintings to the approach of life and cityscape records, and from fragments of absurd ideas that may seem impossible to installation pieces that eventually break the imaginary limits, are just a few examples showing the fascinating places that art has brought me. Its diverse nature, where knowledge from various fields can merge and form meaningful artworks, means the manifestation of inspiration is no longer virtual but rather a sense of mission to resonate and create interactions with the society in real life.
The invitation for you to join our conversation and experience the beauty of this non-verbal language is here on the SZE’s website you are now exploring.
Featured Projects
"The HEART Project"
The HEART project explored the unsetting experiences of strangers in their lives by offering an opportunity to share them in a creative way. In Sai Kung, Hong Kong, I carried out a day of performance during which strangers could interact by responding the question, "what is the most unhappy event you have been through?". They were given pens to write on my heart-shaped costume, which is made of acrylic board. The performance was then documented into a video, along with an explanatory clip about the process, from gathering inspirations to the finished form. They are now available on YouTube.
The aim of this project was to lead to self-reflection for the audiences who watch the video, after understanding the difficulties that other people have encountered, some of which may feel relatable to their own experiences. The final scene creates an impactful moment, questioning the audiences about what they would say to themselves if they could go back in their saddest time -whether to reassure themselves by saying, "you will be fine", or else, there are no certain answers. To embrace the past and accept themselves in this special aspect as a person eventually converts into an everlasting light, shining from the crack of a scar.
"Art Materials Project"
The purpose of this project is to obtain funds by selling my own paintings in order to purchase better art materials to work with. The project started without any art materials, expect for a few canvases and paints. Thus, the first stage of this project was to seek materials that could enable me to paint roughly, as simple as cardboard and cotton buds, while saving to purchase paintbrushes that could refine what I had drawn. Creating without proper art tools was one of the challenges throughout the initial stage of the project; however, the aim is to demonstrate that simple tools can still create a masterpiece.
The project starts again soon after it ends. Therefore, this is a project lifecycle that repeats again and again, leading to improvements in equipment and artworks with each cycle.
